Excluded IPs

Excluded IPs are compared to the user IP address to determine whether a click-through is registered for a Sponsor Ad. This exclusion is necessary to prevent false clicks, such as when the site administrator tests a displayed ad link. This feature is provided to accurately track CPC and CPM statistics in the cd-ad-sponsor plugin only.

  • The Manage Excluded IP page displays the host name associated with each listed IP address and the Ending IP address when defining a range of IPs to exclude.
  • You can delete an IP address from the excluded IP table.
  • You can manually clear search engine crawler counts from the clickthrough table.

The Ending IP address is used to compare the visitor IP to a range of IP addresses to determine whether to exclude the click-through count. The plug-in compares the visitor IP to the range of IP addresses defined by the Exclude IP and Ending IP fields. If the visitor IP is between these two IP addresses, then this visitor is excluded from the click-through counts.

It is important to note here that I have not incorporated any CIDR functionality, as that is beyond the usability of most users. It was a decision based solely on the fact that a select few users would understand the proper use of such a feature.

Note: If you only need to specify a single IP address to exclude, enter the IP address in the Excluded IP Address field and leave the Ending IP Address field blank.

If you are using WordPress multi-site, the Excluded IPs you define apply to the currently active blog only.

Excluded IPs have no bearing on those sponsor programs that also acquire the source IP. This means that sponsor programs, such as Google AdSense will still register your IP and may determine that a specific click is not valid.
